Bhiwandi Building Collapse: Death Toll Rises to Six, NDRF Continues Search and Rescue Operations

Bhiwandi, Maharashtra: The Bhiwandi building collapse has turned into a major tragedy after the death toll rose to six, while the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) continues intensive search and rescue operations at the accident site. Rescue teams are working around the clock to locate survivors believed to be trapped beneath the debris.

The incident occurred in Bhiwandi, Thane district, where a residential building suddenly collapsed, causing panic among residents and leaving several people trapped. Emergency responders, including the NDRF, local police, fire brigade personnel, and medical teams, rushed to the scene immediately after receiving the distress call.

What Happened?

According to officials, the residential building collapsed unexpectedly, trapping multiple occupants under the rubble. Local residents were the first to begin rescue efforts before emergency services arrived.

The NDRF rescue teams later took charge of the operation, deploying specialized equipment, sniffer dogs, and heavy machinery to remove debris carefully while minimizing risks to those who may still be alive.

Authorities have confirmed that six people have lost their lives, while several injured victims have been rescued and shifted to nearby hospitals for treatment.

NDRF Rescue Operation Continues

The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has deployed trained rescue personnel equipped with life-detection devices, hydraulic cutters, cranes, and excavation equipment.

Rescue workers are conducting systematic searches through the collapsed structure to ensure no survivors are left behind. Officials stated that the operation will continue until every section of the debris has been thoroughly searched.

Local police have secured the area, and nearby residents have been advised to stay away from the site to allow rescue teams to work safely.

Possible Cause of the Building Collapse

Authorities have launched an investigation into the Bhiwandi building collapse to determine the exact cause.

Although the official reason is yet to be confirmed, preliminary reports suggest several possible factors:

  • Structural weakness due to ageing infrastructure
  • Poor maintenance of the building
  • Recent heavy rainfall affecting the structure
  • Possible construction-related deficiencies

Engineering experts will inspect the site before submitting their final report.

Government Response

The Maharashtra government has expressed condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in the tragedy.

Officials have assured that:

  • Rescue operations will continue until everyone is accounted for.
  • Medical assistance is being provided to the injured.
  • Financial aid and rehabilitation support will be offered to affected families.
  • A detailed investigation has been ordered to identify those responsible if negligence is found.
